We are a family farm in Berks County Pennsylvania. Our mission is to provide you with premium organically raised lamb - perfect for your backyard barbeque and your gourmet dinner.
Our Family
Paul and Nancy Wissinger - Wonderful parents who provide the love and the land on which this farm runs. They have been farming and raising sheep for over 30 years. Paul heads up the farming operation and also runs a Polled Dorset breeding stock flock that has produced quite a few champion sheep over the last several years. Nancy is an artist and teaches classes several days a week. Her paintings are often featured in local art exhibits. Both are amazing cooks and have taught two generations their delicious recipes and would gladly share their recipes and tips on how to cook delicious lamb with you!
Ben Wissinger - Son who just returned to the farm after 20 years of living out west. He most recently worked for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Texas. He wrote livestock grazing plans for huge ranches in west Texas but is looking forward to working where it rains!
Allison, Bella, and Miles Shannon - Daughter and her two super kids who live just down the road from the farm. Allison runs the Allison Shannon Clothing Co. in West Reading, Pa. She also helps out on the farm a lot. Bella and Miles are in elementary school and provide the fun on the farm. They help feed the sheep and assist with lots of other chores.
Our Ethics:
1. Have healthy land
2. Have healthy animals
3. Have healthy people
We maintain these ethics by emphasizing pasture raising the sheep with limited amounts of grain. Our sheep are grazing on pastures that have not been sprayed with pesticides or inorganic fertilizers. The grain that the sheep eat is certified organic. No GMOs are used. We are currently filling out the paperwork to start the organic transition period of three years. After the three year period, Pennsylvania Certified Organic (our future certifying agent) will grant us the official USDA organic seal. Until then we will be raising our sheep and lambs in accordance with the national organic standards but will not be officially certified as organic.
